613 Hair Color: What the Number Means and How Blonde Extensions Get There

613 Hair Color: What the Number Means and How Blonde Extensions Get There

613 hair color is the palest blonde on most hair extension charts. Every brand uses the number, and no two describe it the same way. We bleach and color hair at our own factory in Vietnam, so here is what 613 means when you hold the hair.

613 is the code for light blonde, the palest standard shade on most hair extension and wig color charts. It's made by bleaching naturally dark hair until it lifts to a pale yellow blonde. No industry body defines the code, so one brand's 613 can look warmer or cooler than another's. Shades like #60 sit lighter, and ash blondes are 613-level hair toned cooler.

This guide covers what the number means, how a factory gets dark hair to 613, how it compares to platinum and ash, who it suits, how long it lasts, and how to match it before you order.

What 613 hair color means

In one line 613 means light blonde, and it's a sales code with no official definition behind it.

Hair extension brands label shades with numbers. #1 is jet black, #1B is natural black, the low numbers are browns, and 613 sits at the light end as the standard pale blonde.

Who decides what 613 looks like? Each factory does. Three of the top pages on Google this week describe it three ways: Indique calls it snow white and baby blonde (30 August 2022), Cynosure calls it a neutral light blonde (updated 15 December 2025), and Sterly calls it honey golden (28 January 2026).

All three are selling something they call 613. That's why you shouldn't order 613 hair color from a new supplier on the number alone.

02

How a factory turns dark hair into 613 hair color

In one line 613 is bleached hair. Dark hair goes through red, orange and yellow before it reaches pale blonde.

Two of the pages ranking for 613 say it doesn't need bleaching. For extension hair that's wrong. Vietnamese, Indian and Chinese hair grows dark, and the only way to get it to 613 is to lift the pigment out.

Bleach lifts dark hair in stages. It passes through red, then orange, then yellow. Indique's guide says getting dark hair to 613 takes two to three rounds of bleach, sometimes four. Every round costs the hair some of its strength.

Then comes the slow part. A bleached bundle usually has strands that lifted less than the rest, plus a few black or red hairs that resisted. Five to seven people sit at a table and pull those out. By hand. One strand at a time. No machine does that part.

Factory side

We do the bleaching and coloring in-house. Most Vietnamese factories don't, which is why custom colors are hard to find at this quality tier. The hair is washed before any chemical step and air-dried after coloring, as part of our 6-step production process.

03

613 hair color vs platinum vs ash blonde

In one line Platinum is about how light the hair is. Ash is about which way the tone leans.

These three names get mixed up all the time, partly because they describe different things.

613 Platinum (often #60) Ash blonde
What the name describes A standard light blonde code The lightest blonde, close to white A cool tone, at any blonde level
Undertone Pale yellow Very little yellow Toned with violet or blue to cancel warmth
How it's made Bleached Bleached further, then toned Bleached, then toned
Use A finished shade, or a base for toning Icy, near-white looks Clients who find 613 too warm

Cynosure puts it simply: #60 is lighter than 613 and has fewer yellow tones. So platinum and 613 are related, but they aren't the same shade.

That answers the ash blonde vs platinum blonde question too. A platinum can be ash or neutral. An ash can be platinum-light or much darker. We make both in our own lines, from 613 flat tip extensions to #60 and #60ash shades.

04

Who 613 hair color suits, and when to tone it

In one line 613 out of the pack is warm and very pale. Most clients look better once a stylist has toned it or blended it.

Straight 613 is a big change against most natural hair colors. On a client with a pale blonde base it can go in as is. On anyone darker, it usually needs help.

Stylists have three ways to make it work:

  • Tone it. A toner shifts the yellow toward ash, beige or pearl so it matches the client's own ends.
  • Blend it. Mix 613 wefts with a darker shade, or use a pre-mixed highlight such as 613 with #5, so the change looks gradual.
  • Root it. A darker shadow root makes the regrowth line softer and the blonde easier to wear.

Contrast with the client's natural root and eyebrows decides most of it. Warm skin often wears 613 well as is; cooler skin usually suits it toned toward ash or pearl.

05

How long 613 hair color lasts, and how to care for it

In one line 613 hair has been bleached hard, so it lives shorter than the same hair left natural black.

Bleach opens and thins the cuticle. That's the price of getting to 613. Blonde extensions tangle sooner, dry out faster and lose their shine earlier than natural black hair from the same factory. We compared the numbers across methods in how long hair extensions last.

Care decides how much of that life you get:

  1. Wash with a sulfate-free shampoo and condition every time.
  2. Use a purple shampoo once a week at most. Used more often, it leaves a lilac cast.
  3. Use heat protectant, and keep hot tools well below the settings you'd use on untreated hair.
  4. Keep the hair out of chlorine and salt water, or rinse straight after.
  5. Expect toner to fade. Brassiness coming back is normal, and a stylist can tone again.

How to match 613 hair color before you order

In one line Match against hair you can hold, and check the second batch against the first.

Because 613 has no fixed definition, a screen photo tells you very little. Lighting and phone cameras push blondes warm or cool.

Match against something physical. Buyers pick from a physical color ring we ship to them before the order is finalized, and the AZ Hair color ring is on the store. Look at it next to the client's hair in daylight, near a window, at the mid-lengths rather than the roots.

When the hair arrives, keep one strand from the first order. Put it next to the second order before you install. A salon that sells one 613 to clients and gets a different 613 the next month has a problem it can't explain to them.

Channel NewsAsia and NPO Netherlands have both filmed inside our factory, and both broadcasts are public: AZ Hair on Channel NewsAsia and our NPO Netherlands feature.

Frequently asked questions

Is platinum blonde the same as 613?

No. Platinum is lighter and has less yellow. Many brands sell it as #60. 613 is a pale blonde with a warm base, and stylists often tone it toward platinum.

What hair color is lighter than 613?

Platinum and white blondes, often coded #60 or listed as silver or white. Getting there takes more bleaching than 613, so the hair is more fragile.

What skin tones suit 613 hair?

Warm and fair skin tones often wear 613 straight from the pack. Cooler and deeper skin tones usually suit it toned toward ash or pearl, or blended with a darker root. Contrast with the client's own root matters as much as skin tone.

Can you dye 613 hair extensions darker?

Yes. 613 takes color well, which is why stylists use it as a base. Going darker is easy with a deposit-only color. Going lighter than 613 is harder and puts the hair at more risk.

The short version

613 is the standard light blonde on extension charts, made by bleaching dark hair until it reaches pale yellow. Brands don't agree on exactly how it looks, so platinum, ash and 613 overlap on the shelf.

Match 613 hair color against a physical sample you can hold, and check every new batch against the last one before it goes on a client.
