How to find a hair vendor who actually owns a factory

How to find a hair vendor who actually owns a factory

Search "how to find a hair vendor" and the first page hands you a Reddit thread, a Facebook group whose name is literally "Quality Hair& Hair Vendor Lists sell and buy", three YouTube videos, and three vendor homepages telling you the search is over. That was the live result on 20 August 2026. One editorial article in the whole top seven.

None of those pages is written by someone who has been on the receiving end of the checks.

We make hair in Vietnam and we get vetted by buyers every week. So this is the same ten steps every guide runs, with one thing added to each: what the vendor sees when you ask, what a real answer sounds like, and what the dodge sounds like.

Run it on us. Run it on anyone.

Decide what you are sourcing, pick an origin country, verify the vendor owns the factory, order a paid sample, compare quotes against what drives the price, then start with one small order.

What a hair vendor actually is, and the four types you will meet

In one lineFour different businesses answer the same enquiry, and they behave nothing alike once money moves.
01

Factory, or direct manufacturerWhat you want

Owns the building, the machines and the workforce. Sets its own price because it carries its own cost. Can put you on a video call from the production floor in the time it takes to walk there.

02

Trading companyWorkable

Buys from factories and sells on. Often good at export paperwork and communication, which is a real service. The price carries a layer, and when a shipment is wrong they are relaying your complaint to someone else.

03

Reseller and drop-shipperRisk

Holds little or no stock. Frequently sells hair they have never physically handled. Fast to reply, slow to solve.

04

Vendor list sellersNot a supplier

Sells you a PDF of names for a fee. Not a supplier at all. One of these ranks on page one of the search you just ran, as a Facebook group.

Type Owns production Sets the price When a shipment is wrong MOQ behaviour Unannounced video call
Factory Yes Yes Answers directly, from the line Low, to let you test Takes the call, walks the floor
Trading company No Adds a margin Relays to the factory Moderate Offers a scheduled tour instead
Reseller No Adds a margin Relays, often to a trading company Often high, to cover their own buy Sends photos and a catalogue
List seller No Sells access Not their problem None, they sell no hair No production to show

Most searches for wholesale hair vendors end at type two or three without the buyer ever knowing which one they landed on. The ten steps below exist to tell them apart.

01

Decide what you are sourcing

In one linePick the format and write down the 90-day volume before you email anyone. That first message decides the quality of every reply you get.

Bundles, wefts, tips or wigs

You cannot evaluate a vendor until you know what you are asking them to make. A factory tooled for machine weft is not automatically good at keratin bonds, and a wig workshop is a different operation again.

Decide the format first. If you are still weighing it up, that decision is covered in the full extension type comparison, and the three salon formats are compared on economics in weft, tape-in or keratin.

The volume you can realistically move in 90 days

Write the number down before you email anyone. Not the number you hope for. The number your current customers will absorb.

Factory side

We can tell how ready a buyer is from the first message. "18 inch straight machine weft, natural black, 30 bundles a month, shipping to Houston" gets a real quote the same working day. "What do you have?" gets a catalogue and a slower reply. That is true here and it is true at every factory you contact, because the second message means nobody has done the work yet.

02

Pick a sourcing country

In one lineOrigin decides cuticle condition, shaft thickness and bleach behaviour. It also decides how much of the story you can verify.

Country labels have drifted into texture grades. "Brazilian" or "Peruvian" on a wrap tells you what the hair feels like without telling you where it was cut. That argument in full is how sourcing countries compare.

Origin What you get The catch
Vietnam Single-donor collection from rural communities, thinner shaft than Indian or Chinese hair, naturally aligned cuticle. Supply is capped by biology, so volume is limited and pricing reflects that. Specs and weights are in Vietnamese bundle specs.
India Temple hair from tonsuring is documented and traceable. Comb waste and salon-floor collection is the cheapest hair on the market and is acid-washed to strip the cuticle before it can be sold.
China Largest processing capacity in the world and the most price-competitive. Much of what ships as other origins is finished here. Excellent for volume and consistency of finish, weakest on donor traceability.
Cambodia, Burma Real collection happens in both, at small volume. The volume sold under those labels is larger than the volume collected under them.
03

Check what the vendor is really selling

In one lineRaw, virgin, remy and non-remy describe four different things. Ask the one question that pins each word down.
Term What it guarantees What it leaves open What to ask
Raw Single donor, no chemical or steam processing, cuticle intact and aligned Nothing, it is the strictest term "One donor per bundle?"
Virgin No colour, perm or chemical treatment Donor count, steam texturing "How many donors per bundle?"
Remy Cuticles aligned one direction Chemical processing, donor count "Processed or unprocessed remy?"
Non-remy Nothing about direction Everything "Was this acid washed?"

Remy covers cuticle alignment only, and what remy hair actually means stops there. Virgin covers chemical history and says nothing about donor count. The full breakdown sits at raw versus virgin versus remy.

The single-donor claim and how to test it

Order four bundles in one length and lay them side by side in daylight. Small variation in tone and wave is what single-donor supply looks like, because four bundles came off four heads. Four bundles that match perfectly came out of one process.

Factory side

A spec sheet from a real production line carries things a reseller's does not: weight as weighed at packing rather than as labelled, drawn type, and whether colour was done in-house or bought in. Ask for the spec sheet. The gaps in it tell you where the vendor's control stops.

04

Verify the vendor is who they say they are

In one lineThis is the step that decides the other nine. Ask for the building, not the brochure.

Ask for the building, not the brochure

Anyone can send photos of a factory. Ask which building, in which province, and whether you can see it live.

Our factory is in Vietnam and our HQ is in Hanoi. Every shipment leaves a building we own.

Third-party verification that means something

Channel NewsAsia and NPO Netherlands have both filmed inside our factory. Both broadcasts are public: AZ Hair on Channel NewsAsia and our NPO Netherlands feature. Both sent journalists and camera crews to the HQ and the factory and documented the production process.

We have also held Alibaba Verified Supplier (7 years) status and operate under Trade Assurance. For a first order, that means payment releases after the order ships and clears inspection, which is the right answer for a buyer who has no reason to trust us yet.

If a vendor can't show you live factory footage on a video call, they're a reseller. Ask before you wire money.

An unannounced video call during working hours

Not a scheduled tour. A call you did not warn them about, during Vietnam working hours. You can also watch our factory tour without asking anyone first.

Sourcing is step one of our 6-step production process. Steps two through six are sorting and cuticle alignment, natural air drying on racks for six to eight hours with no industrial heat, bleaching and colouring, quality inspection, then extension production.

05

Order samples before you commit

In one lineBuy one full bundle at normal price, then run five tests on it. A cut swatch tells you nothing.

What to order and what it should cost

A full bundle at normal price. Ours is 100g, and it is also our testing minimum: 1 bundle, 1 wig, or 1 closure or frontal. We do not sell 10g or 20g cut samples, because a cut swatch tells you nothing about how a full weft sheds, and nothing about weight accuracy.

Factory side

A vendor giving free samples is either sending you someone else's hair or pricing the giveaway into your first order. Paying normal price for one bundle is the cheap version of this test.

The five tests to run

  1. Weigh it dry, before you cut the tie.A 100g bundle should be 100g. 95g is not rounding.
  2. Slide a single strand both directions.Smooth one way and slightly resistant the other means the cuticle is intact and aligned. Identical both ways means it was stripped.
  3. Wash three times with clarifying shampoo, no conditioner.Clarifying shampoo removes silicone. Texture that changes between wash one and wash three was a coating.
  4. Compare bundles from the same order in daylight.Covered in Step 3.
  5. Hold the weft edge up to a light.Even along its whole length, no loose returns. Gaps shed later.

Bundle-level inspection in full is at how to inspect raw hair bundles.

What a sample cannot tell you

Consistency between shipments. One good bundle proves one good bundle. That is what Step 10 is for.

06

Compare pricing without chasing the cheapest quote

In one lineFour things move a quote: length, drawn type, texture and colour work. A quote far under the others had something substituted.
Price driver Why it moves the number
Length Long hair is rarer at every collection point, and the yield per donor drops as length goes up.
Drawn type Single, double and super double describe how much short hair was pulled out by hand. That labour is the cost, and why double drawn costs more covers the yield maths.
Texture A straightening or texturing pass is added process time plus breakage loss, which is why bone straight and what it costs to produce prices above natural straight.
Colour Bleaching in-house costs differently from buying coloured hair in.

Origin and donor count sit underneath all four. Wholesale price ranges by product are at what bundles actually cost wholesale.

The quote that is too low

A quote far under every other one you have is not a discount. Something was substituted to hit it: shorter hair blended into the bundle, a lower drawn type, mixed donors, or 85g labelled 100g.

AZ Hair Vietnam is a direct manufacturer with our own factory and our HQ in Hanoi. No middleman, no resellers, no markup layers. Each layer between the line and you adds its own margin and its own version of the spec.

Price depends on length, drawn type and quantity

Send your spec and quantity, we send the current list. Testing minimum is 1 bundle at 100g, 1 wig, or 1 closure or frontal.

07

Shipping, duties and lead time

In one lineAir freight is the default, you are usually the importer of record, and production time is production time.

Air and sea from Southeast Asia

Hair is light and low-volume, so air freight is the default for anything under a few hundred bundles. Sea only starts making sense at container-adjacent volume, and it adds weeks.

Who is the importer of record

Usually you. Unless the contract says otherwise, the buyer clears customs and pays duty in the destination country, and duty rates differ by country and by product classification. Ask your broker for the classification before you commit to a landed-cost number, and treat any vendor quoting you a duty rate for your country as a vendor guessing.

What a realistic lead time looks like

Ours is 1 to 2 days for in-stock items and 10 to 12 working days for custom production. Transit adds to that and depends on the destination and the carrier.

Factory side

A vendor quoting 7 days on a custom 200-bundle order is either reselling finished stock or about to miss the date. Production time is production time. Ask what happens to your delivery date if they miss it, and get the answer before you pay.

08

Read the policies before you pay

In one lineRead them while you still have room to walk away. A vendor with no written policy has no policy.

Nobody reads these until something goes wrong. Ours are public and specific, and some of it is strict. Here it is plainly, because a vendor who hides this is the actual problem:

  • Orders can be cancelled within 4 hours of purchase, and cancellation carries a 30% processing fee. After 4 hours the order may already be in production.
  • No exchanges once an order is placed. Details are confirmed at checkout.
  • The refund window is 72 hours from completed delivery. After that the order counts as accepted.
  • Refunds cover hair that arrives defective, broken, or different from what was ordered in texture, length or material.
  • Hair that has been washed or altered, or arrives back without original tags and packaging, does not qualify.
  • Return shipping is paid by the customer and is not reimbursed.
  • Processing a returned package takes up to 14 business days, and funds land 10 to 15 days after that depending on your card issuer.
  • Contact support before returning anything. Unauthorised returns are not compensated.

Full text: AZ Hair refund policy.

What to ask any vendor

Who pays return freight, what the window is, what counts as a defect, and whether the answers exist in writing anywhere other than a WhatsApp message. A vendor with no written policy has no policy.

09

Test communication before you scale

In one lineFast replies are not the signal. Ask a question only production can answer, then time the reply.

Response speed is not the signal

Every guide tells you fast replies mean a good vendor. That is backwards often enough to be worth saying: a sales agent replying in 30 seconds at 3am Vietnam time is a bot, an outsourced desk, or a reseller in another timezone.

Ask something only production can answer. What was the average bundle weight variance on the last run. Whether the 22 inch is single or double drawn this month. How long the air-drying step takes.

Then time that reply. A factory takes longer on that question and comes back with a number. A reseller comes back fast with an adjective.

Who you are actually talking to

Ask whether the person you are messaging can walk to the production floor right now. It is a yes or no question and the hesitation is the answer.

10

Start small, then scale

In one lineSize the first order so that a failure costs you a week. Scale on shipment two matching shipment one.

A sensible first order

One bundle to test. Then a small production order in one length and one texture, sized so that a failure costs you a week of trading.

What to measure before order two

Weight variance across the order. Shedding after three washes. Whether the second shipment matches the first. That last one is the whole test, because consistency between runs is the thing a single sample cannot show you and the thing that decides whether you can build a line on this vendor.

Which stock to test first is covered in how distributors choose stock.

How to find a hair vendor without buying a list

In one lineEvery factory on a paid list is already on Alibaba, already has a website, and already answers WhatsApp.

A large share of the traffic to this question is people about to pay for a PDF of supplier names. "Hair vendor list" runs 170 searches a month in the US and "wholesale hair vendors list" another 70 (Google Ads API, pulled 20 August 2026), and a Facebook group selling exactly that ranked third on this SERP the same day.

Here is the position, without hedging: you are paying for a search that takes twenty minutes.

  1. Search Alibaba for your product term and filter to Verified Supplier with 5+ years.
  2. Open the top 20 storefronts and cut any without a factory audit report.
  3. Message the remaining ones with a real spec: format, length, texture, colour, monthly quantity, destination.
  4. Cut anyone who cannot answer Step 3's spec-sheet question.
  5. Ask the survivors for an unannounced video call.

You will finish with a shorter and better list than the one being sold, and you will know why each name is on it. A list you did not build tells you nothing about the vendor's cuticle handling, weight accuracy or lead-time honesty, which are the only three things that matter.

Our own catalogue is at shop hair extensions, and it costs nothing to look at.

Red flags that should end the conversation

  • Stock photos reused across multiple vendor sites. A reverse image search takes ten seconds.
  • No factory footage of any kind, ever, on request.
  • "Raw" hair that arrives bone straight out of the box. Bone straight is a processed finish, so both claims cannot be true at once. The definition is at what raw hair actually is.
  • Refusal to take a live video call during their own working hours.
  • A price far below every other quote you have collected.
  • A vendor list sold to you as a product.

Frequently asked questions

How to find wholesale hair vendors?

Search Alibaba filtered to Verified Suppliers with five or more years, plus direct searches for factories in the origin country you have chosen. Message each one with a full spec: format, length, texture, quantity, destination. Then verify with a paid sample and an unannounced video call before any volume order.

How do I find a good hair vendor?

Good is measurable, so measure it. Weight accuracy against the label, cuticle direction on a strand test, texture stability after three clarifying washes, and consistency between your first and second shipment. A vendor who passes all four is good regardless of how their website looks.

Where do hair vendors get their hair from?

Direct collection from donors, temple collection in India, salon-floor and comb-waste collection, or purchase from other factories. The four sources produce very different hair at very different prices, and only the first two are traceable. Ask which one, and ask for the province.

Where can I find a raw hair vendor for wholesale?

Start with factories in Vietnam, India or Cambodia that will name a collection region and show you the sorting floor live. Raw is the strictest grade, so verify it: single donor, no chemical processing, no steam texturing, cuticle intact and aligned. Any vendor selling raw deep wave is selling a contradiction.

What is the best hair vendor?

There is no single answer, and any page giving you one is selling that vendor or selling a list. The best vendor for you is the one whose origin, format and minimum match what you sell, and who passes the sample tests twice in a row.

How do I know a vendor is a factory and not a reseller?

Ask for an unannounced video call from the production floor during their working hours. Ask a question only production can answer, such as bundle weight variance on the last run. A factory takes the call and gives you a number. A reseller offers photos and a scheduled tour.

What is a normal MOQ for hair extensions?

For testing, one unit is reasonable and anything higher is a warning sign. Ours is 1 bundle at 100g, 1 wig, or 1 closure or frontal, at normal price. Wholesale minimums sit higher and the per-unit price improves with quantity, so ask for the tier against your actual quantity.

How much should a first order be?

Small enough that a failure costs you a week. One bundle to test, then one small production run in a single length and texture. Scale on the second shipment matching the first, not on the first one being good.

Do I need a business licence to buy wholesale hair?

It depends on your country and on the vendor. Many factories sell to anyone who meets the minimum. Your own tax authority and customs broker decide what you need on the import side, so confirm that with your broker before your first shipment.

How long does shipping from Vietnam take, and who pays duty?

Production is 1 to 2 days for in-stock items and 10 to 12 working days for custom. Transit sits on top and varies by destination and carrier. Duty is normally paid by the buyer as importer of record, at a rate set by your country's classification, so get that from a broker and not from a vendor.

The short version

Finding a hair vendor is not a research problem. It is a testing problem. Every claim on this page gets settled by one bundle, ordered twice, from the same vendor.

Order the first bundle to see what they make. Order the second to see whether they can repeat it.

Most vendors pass the first test. Fewer pass the second. That gap is where the money goes.

We make hair in Vietnam, in our own factory. Channel NewsAsia filmed inside it. NPO Netherlands filmed inside it. Both broadcasts are public and both are linked above. Our testing minimum is a single 100g bundle at normal price, because a vendor who is confident in the product does not need a ten bundle minimum to protect it.

Next step

Send three things. Get a real quote.

Length, drawn type, and quantity. We reply with the price tier that matches your quantity, plus the lead time. In stock ships in 1 to 2 days. Custom production runs 10 to 12 working days.

Testing minimum: 1 bundle at 100g, 1 wig, or 1 closure or frontal. Normal price. No sample fee.
