How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost? Hair, Install and Upkeep

A full head of hair extensions has three prices hidden inside one number: the hair, the stylist's time, and the upkeep that comes back every few weeks. Most price lists give you the total. We make the hair, so this guide splits the bill open.

Those ranges come from a 2026 US price guide by Perfect Locks, and they match what other US sellers publish. We add the part those guides leave out: what the hair itself costs when it leaves our factory in Vietnam.

Christian Michael, a US salon brand, publishes a similar picture: tape-in hair at $200 to $800, and maintenance visits at $150 to $300 every 6 to 8 weeks (article dated 15 August 2025).

Two things stand out. Clip-ins and halos have no install cost and no upkeep cost. Every salon method has both, and the upkeep repeats all year.

These are the prices listed on azhairvietnam.com on 24 September 2026, for the 16-inch Double Drawn (A++) grade. Prices change, so check the product page before you order.

Tape-in figures were checked on 22 September 2026. Compare them with the retail table above. Two 100g packs of tape-in at the bottom of our range come to about $80. The same method sells at $200 to $600 for the hair alone in US retail.

The gap is brand, retail margin, import shipping, and the stylist's own markup on the hair. All of those are real costs for the business charging them. It's also why many salons buy hair direct from a factory and charge only for their time.

Perfect Locks puts a 100g clip-in set at "volume" and a 200g set at "volume and significant length". Cliphair, a UK and US clip-in seller, lists its full-head sets at 130g for a classic set up to 240g to 300g for its heaviest set.

• Fine hair, volume only Around 100g.
• Medium hair, some length 150g to 200g.
• Thick hair, or 22 inches and longer 200g or more.

Longer hair costs more per pack and needs more packs to look even. Both numbers go up together, which is why a 24-inch install costs far more than a 16-inch one.

Color. A 16-inch machine weft pack costs $40.55 in jet black and $60.99 in light blonde #24C on our store. That's about 50% more for the same weight and length.

At our factory, most of the extra cost for blonde comes from one table. Five to seven people sit there pulling every red strand, every black strand and every damaged strand out of a bundle that's already been lifted.

By hand. One at a time. No machine does that part.

Length. A 16-inch machine weft pack lists at $40.55. The same pack at 20 inches lists at $59.92. Longer hair is harder to collect, so the price climbs faster than the inches do.

Grade. Drawn type describes how many short hairs have been removed from a bundle, which sets how thick the ends look. Super Double Drawn (A+++) removes more short hairs than Double Drawn (A++). On our machine weft the jump is small, $40.55 to $41.73 at 16 inches. On keratin tips it's larger, $39.05 to $47.08.

Drawn type and hair condition are separate things. A bundle of heavily colored, over-processed hair can be super double drawn and still wear out fast. More on that in our double drawn hair guide.

Construction. Genius weft costs more than machine weft at the same length and color, $56.60 against $40.55, because it's a thinner weft with more hand work per piece. Clip-ins cost more per 100g than wefts because every piece carries clips and a base.

Here's the math on Perfect Locks' own numbers:

The hair itself often outlasts one install. Tape-in wefts can usually be re-taped and reused. Good human hair can last 3 to 5 years with proper care: sulfate-free washing, heat protectant, and correct storage between wears. Skip that routine and it won't.

Five questions to send any supplier:

1. What's the price per 100g, and is the pack weighed at 100g when it's packed?
2. Which grade is this, and how do you define it?
3. Is this in stock, or made to order? How many working days?
4. Can you send a video of this exact hair in someone's hand, this week?
5. If I reorder in three months, will it match this batch?

Question four matters more than it looks. A UK buyer who ordered genius weft and nano tips from us this summer asked for a video of the hair in someone's hand three times before paying. They didn't ask for a certificate at any point.

Question five decides whether you order a second time. A salon has already sold the first batch to its clients. If the second batch looks different, the stylist has to explain that to them.
